A few years ago there was a company in Florida.  Florida got hit with a serious hurricane that year, and their building was destroyed.  Total loss on all of the computer equipment.  The company found their 100 lb fireproof cabinet about six blocks away.  The doors were smashed open, and the tapes were water logged.  The company could only recover less than 30% of their data.  That company is now out of business.

Do not risk your company's data to things that are out of your control, store your tapes offsite.
