Sign up for a Free PC
TCS
is offering a Free PC giveaway. This giveaway is based on how much
equipment we get donated to TCS. As we get our donations we will clean
them up, remove viruses, reinstall software, etc. until we have a working
system that we can given away. Some months we may have one pc to
give away, and other times we may three or four. The only problem
is the extras that a PC needs, a keyboard, a mouse, and a monitor.
We don't get these donated to us too often, so if you need a complete
system, you could end up on our waiting list for some time.
So if you can afford it, (a keyboard and mouse can be found for
under $20, and a used monitor for under $50), you can get a PC a lot
quicker. Otherwise you may be on our waiting list for some time.
Here are some questions and answers about this
program:
What types of systems are you giving away? Well
the quality varies greatly. Some may be a low as 500 MHz or lower, and
others may be in the 1.5 GHz range. It just depends on what we
have received as donations from out clients.
Are these systems working 100%? That
is a good question. In most cases the systems that were donated to
us were working at
the time that they were replaced. So the answer is yes in most
cases. But these systems were replaced for a reason, and it is
possible that the reason is the system was not working properly.
We will do as much of a system diagnostics as time permits before we
give a system away.
What if we get a system and it doesn't work right?
Bring it back to us, maybe we can fix it, maybe we will just replace it.
If we have to replace it, you may end up on our waiting list. But
you will be at the top of the list.
Are we a charity? No we are not, TCS is
doing this strictly as free service. We replace systems at our
clients on a monthly basis. The older systems in the past were
thrown away. We now takes these systems and try to give them away.
There are no strings attached. TCS is donating their time
refurbishing these systems, and the time to organize a way to give
them away.
How do I qualify for a free PC? First of all send us an email at
freepc@tcshouston.net or
better yet fill out form below. Once we process your information,
we will contact you and conduct an interview. It's nothing
special, we won't want to see any tax records, W-2's, etc. We just want
to get to know you a little bit better, and find out what you need. Then
depending on what we have in stock you might get a pc within a few days,
or it could be longer. As I mentioned earlier, those who need a
complete system will be on the waiting list longer than those who need
just a PC.
Why are we doing this? Two reasons,
children that have a computer get better grades. We want to see
everyone get a chance in life. And two, we just couldn't throw
these working computers away. They would do someone some good.
Will Printers be given away too? The
answer it most cases, is no. Even more rare than monitor
donations, is printer donations. It is possible that some very
lucky people will get printers, but it is extremely unlikely.
Working printers are rarely replaced. When a printer is replaced,
it is almost always because it was not working.
Are they really free? Yes they are. The
equipment was giving to us, so we are giving it away. They only
thing we ask in return is a picture of your family, the right to post
your picture with your first name on our website, and a thank note would
be nice!
Are 100% of donated equipment given away?
Unfortunately no. We estimate that 50 to 70% of the equipment we receive
can be repaired and given away. The rest we be scraped for parts
to fix other systems. Whatever we can't use will be taken to the
Westpark recycling center to be recycled.
Can some one donate money to help our program?
We are not a charity, so giving us a donation does not give you any tax
credits. However any money donated to us will be used for hardware
to make complete systems, monitors, keyboards, etc. as well as punching
parts to fix any systems we receive.
This program is subject to change as our donations,
or requests change.
